Dubai, UAE - GMS, the world’s largest buyer of ships for recycling, and its shipowning arm Lila Global announce that Dr. Anil Sharma, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, has been recognized in the Lloyd’s List Top 100 Most Influential People in Shipping for the 16th consecutive year.

The annual Lloyd’s List Top 100 recognizes individuals whose work continues to shape the direction of the global maritime industry. In this year’s edition, Dr. Sharma is acknowledged for his leadership across both ship recycling and ship ownership, reflecting his continued contribution to responsible practices and commercial execution across the sector. Dr. Sharma is one of only 7 individuals in the world to be listed in all 16 editions of the Lloyd’s List Top 100.

Lloyd’s List notes that under Dr. Sharma’s leadership, GMS has maintained its position as the world’s largest buyer of ships for recycling. With more than 5,000 completed transactions, GMS handles about one-third of global tonnage delivered for recycling each year. The publication also points to the scale and reach of the GMS platform, built to support shipowners with consistent execution across market cycles.

Alongside this, Lila Global has strengthened its position as a shipowning and operating company. With a fleet of 38 vessels and transporting more than 25 million DWT annually, this year Lila Global has been increasing its tanker exposure through selective acquisitions and disciplined fleet management. Lila Global continues to trade globally while strengthening operational standards across its tanker operations.
