In a significant recognition of his contributions to the maritime industry, Dr. Anil Sharma, Founder and CEO of GMS, has been conferred an Honorary Industrial Doctorate by the Aries International Maritime Research Institute (AIMRI). This prestigious accolade celebrates Dr. Sharma's persistent commitment and visionary leadership in maritime operations and sustainability.

Dr. Anil Sharma's illustrious career is a testament to his dedication and innovation in the maritime industry. As the founder of GMS, Dr. Sharma launched the world's first ISO-certified cash buyer for ships and offshore assets, fundamentally transforming the landscape of ship and offshore recycling. Under his visionary leadership, GMS has not only grown into a global venture operating across 15 countries but has also become a one-stop enterprise renowned for its commitment to sustainability and innovation.

Under Dr. Sharma's guidance, GMS has evolved into a one-stop enterprise, owning about 45 ships operated under its ship-owning arm, Lila Global. The diversified fleet includes bulk carriers, tankers, gas and containers.
A pioneer in the industry, Dr. Sharma has also been instrumental in promoting sustainable shipping initiatives. He established the LRQA-certified Sustainable Ship & Offshore Recycling Program (SSORP), the only program of its kind to measure the carbon footprint of a recycled vessel. His efforts have greatly contributed to safer and more environmentally responsible ship recycling practices, benefiting thousands of workers across the Indian subcontinent.

Dr. Sharma’s academic achievements are equally commendable. Holding a Master’s (MBA) and a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) from prestigious universities in the USA, he spent the first ten years of his post-graduate career in academia, serving as a professor and department chairman. His scholarly approach has deeply influenced his business practices, merging theoretical knowledge with practical applications in the maritime industry.
