GMS associates have a strong background and years of experience in the maritime and ship recycling industry. Their expertise in the areas of ship recycling, finance, banking, local markets and management practices help to make up an extremely competent working team unlike any other in the industry. Dr. Sharma is the Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of GMS. Originally from India, he came to the United States in 1982 and completed his Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Marshall University in West Virginia and his Doctorate of Business Administration (MBA) in Marketing and International Business from the U.S. International University in California. Dr. Sharma worked in academia and moved rapidly through promotions from visiting lecturer to chairman of the Business Department at Frostburg State University in Maryland. Dr. Sharma has presented numerous academic papers on international business issues at regional and national conferences. In addition, he has been the recipient of research grants and awards in this area. Subsequently, in May of 1996, after 10 years of university teaching, Dr. Sharma resigned from his fully tenured faculty position to devote full attention to the ever-expanding global activities of GMS, which he founded in 1992.
MaryBeth Duncan, Director of Finance & Senior Accountant, is a Certified Public Accountant. She has a Bachelors Degree in Modern Foreign Languages and Literature, with a concentration in French as well as a Bachelors Degree in Accounting. An employee of GMS since November 1997, her responsibilities include: banking, letters of credit, cash payments, and documentation compliance. She works closely with brokers and sellers to ensure smooth deliveries and closings. MaryBeth also manages all accounting for the company. A team of accountants, lawyers, and bookkeepers report to her. MaryBeths expertise with ship recycling letters of credit is unique.
Captain Yogesh Rehani has 19 years experience in the maritime industry. He began his maritime career as an apprentice at the Shipping Corporation of India. From there he went on to be a Certified Office with Barber Ship Management. After serving with Barber for eleven years, Captain Rehani worked for various US based ship managers. He then decided to pursue his education in the USA in the field of shipping. Captain Rehani will soon complete his Master of Science degree in International Transportation Management. As Director of Operations, he is responsible for coordinating the inspections and deliveries of all "as is where is" vessels. Additionally, he oversees all chartering, technical, reactivation and towing operations. Captain Rehani is assisted by a team of specialists including: naval architects, technical superintendents, engineers and port captains.
